Recenlty in class we have been focusing on the theme of the status quo, and what it means and takes to challenge the status quo. I have recently found that this is relevent in my own life as well.
There have often been times in the past when I have spent time reading, listening to music, watching T.V. shows, and hanging out with friends where I've been completely absorbed in my actions, yet unaware of my true happiness. It isn't until I really take a moment to think about my life that I realize there are certain issues I have been ignoring.
When I actually take a minute to focus on myself, and my happiness, I realize there are things I could be doing to increase my satisfaction with life. When I do make that realization the next, and most challenging, step becomes actually making those changes in my life in order to improve my well
I could easily relate to what you said about finding the true happiness in yourself. I agree that after spending watching t.v., listening to music or hanging out with friends you take a moment to think about yourself and your place in life. I feel like some people would find that selfish to find true happiness in your life and the issues you face but really when we find good in ourselves we're able to find good in those around us.
ReplyDeleteThis is definitely true with me too Katie. I get so absorbed in what i do and just go along with it and it is kinda blah, but then you take a step back and realize what could make that moment even more special for you or the people you are with, it makes a difference in you satisfaction. Like if we look back in 50 years at our lives we want to remember what we did and we want to know that we were happy back then. This is a great connection that made me think about my own life and to really realize what needs improvement for satisfaction. Good Job Katie.
ReplyDeleteI can see where you're coming from with this entry. Sometimes it's just so easy to get wrapped up in the things that we think are important but aren't really important at all. It's a good thing that you realize that you're not focusing on yourself, though. Sometimes people just go throughout their who life just 'going with the flow' and not stopping to make sure their own happiness is in check.
ReplyDeleteI've learned to this year that in order to achieve happiness and be content with yourself it is important to spend time with yourself. In high school our lives are so wrapped around a tight schedule that includes our normal hang out times with our friends but often leaves out yourself. The status quo is what we're used to, the constant schedule and repeating of events. But by challenging the status quo and doing things out of spontaneity maybe your happiness could prosper. I'm trying to accomplish this right now, and just keep my mind guessing because it is so much fun to live in the moment, not around a schedule.
